Piper Marshburn – Recreational Therapy Director
Piper is originally from Corona, California. She grew up in the pool and ocean, competing as a swimmer. Her passion for swimming lead her to a Division II school in Mississippi. She competed for Delta State University while getting her Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science. Piper hung up her suit after finishing her Bachelor’s degree, but continued her education with an interest in sport psychology; this brought her to Washington so she could attend Western Washington University. She went to Western to get her Master’s Degree in Sport Psychology. Her interest for sport psychology came from the experience of being an athlete, as well as understanding how much the mind can play a role in an athlete’s performance.
What brought Piper to Mira Vista was the desire to help others and give them a better quality of life. Her recreational therapy position gives her the opportunity for that, as well as utilizing her educational background in hopes to make others feel better mentally, physically, and emotionally. Though she is new to Mira Vista and recreational therapy, she looks forward to beginning a career here along with helping the residents feel better in any way she can help. Piper is passionate about sports and being active outdoors; she is also very sarcastic and considers it her first language.
